Rhema Newcastle has released the results of their listener-voted Top 30 countdown.
A student band from Newcastle has topped Rhema FM’s Oz30 Countdown, their annual listener-voted countdown of top Australian Christian artists.
The band, a collective of students simply named ‘Zac, Millie and Harry’, made first place with their song ‘Joy In The Dirty’, inspired by a missions trip to the Solomon Islands. The trio are students at Maitland Christian School.
Explaining the inspiration behind the song, singer Millie said, “While we were on mission, we saw so many people just find so much joy, even though they didn’t really have much, and they found their joy through God, and they were just so generous, sharing everything that they had with us.”
Also featured on the Oz30 Countdown were internationally renowned artists like For King & Country, and homegrown singers such as Tarryn Stokes, Bella Taylor Smith, Dami Im, John Newsome and Amelia Gardner.
John Newsome took out the #2 and #3 spots with his songs ‘Speak’ and ‘Not Giving Up’ respectively.
Other local Newcastle artists featured include Stones Of Eden, Endless Praise and LIJA.
The Oz30 Countdown has been running for more than a decade now and is part of Rhema’s efforts to support Australian and local Christian artists.
