Rhema Media welcomes new CEO Luke Weston.
Rhema Media in New Zealand is celebrating the appointment of former content director Luke Weston as their new CEO.
Luke has served for 11 years as content director at Rhema and was welcomed into his new role on September 9 with a ‘powhiri’ or Maori welcoming ceremony.
He follows in the footsteps of former CEO Andrew Fraser and his role will involve overseeing its three radio stations (Rhema, Life FM, and Star) as well as its digital and TV platforms, podcasts, and community connections.
Luke's appointment was announced to the Rhema Media community in a hilarious video featuring many well known staff members.
An article by Tribe Leadership described Luke as a forward-thinking innovator, and in an interview with Lizzie Oakes on Star Radio, Luke said he was looking ahead to strategies for leading the way through change.
“I think it’s an interesting season we’re heading into for all media,” Luke said. “Mediaworks has struggled recently , TV3 closed down news, and paying for content has become an issue, you know, people get the content they want for free. And so we’re going to have to work through all of that.
“We’ve got this incredible financial model where people who believe in it support it, which means our financial model is pretty robust.
“AM, which Star is on, is becoming more and more obsolete, it’s expensive to maintain, so we’re going to have to put together a strategy about how we transition the listeners over to other platforms and to make sure we continue to give Christian content to more and more listeners.”
Well known in CMAA circles as one of the hosts of our annual CONNECT conference, Luke has just wrapped up hosting CONNECT24 alongside Shekeinah Hill.
