Meet Maz, Life FM's New Drive Host

Life FM's Drive show has a new presenter in former nights host Maz, after the departure of Aiden Grant.

Life FM announcer Mary-Anne Maio, or Maz to her listeners, has ‘shifted gears’ to take on the Drive shift, after six years co-hosting nights show, The Takeover.

The move comes after the departure of former Drive host and assistant content director, Aiden Grant.

In her last, emotional shift on The Takeover Maz paid tribute to her colleagues and reflected on the past six years, which included some very tough times journeying with her mother through a serious illness. Her mother passed away in 2021.

“I’ll always be grateful for Life FM’s support at that time, giving me time to grieve and, when I was ready, a safe space to be fully vulnerable and open on-air,” she said.

Maz said she was excited and grateful for this new opportunity to fine tune her on-air skills in the drive show, titled Maz for the Drive Home.

“It’s such a blessing to be recognised and given this incredible opportunity to challenge myself and strengthen my radio muscles, and, given the time of the shift, speak into the hearts of many more people,” she said.

“My biggest excitement in this new position is having the opportunity to not only connect with the people of Adelaide, but to become a friend for them. One of my favourite quotes is from Hallie Flanagan: ‘The power of radio is not that it speaks to millions, but that it speaks intimately and privately to each one of those millions.’”

Maz explains that she “fell into radio”, having initially dreamed of working in TV. As a young 20-something she found herself stuck in a job she didn’t enjoy, and “took a leap of faith”, enrolling in a two-day voiceover workshop. This led to being approached by Life FM and volunteering on The Takeover, which in turn led to her being hired as co-host.

The show promises to be a celebration of life and all things Adelaide, featuring news and current affairs, health, wellbeing and finance, daily encouragement for Christians and non-Christians alike, plenty of laughs, and, of course, great music.

“I hope that Maz for the Drive Home can bring some joy in a world where we’re surrounded by so much heartache.”

The Takeover evening show on Life FM continues with David ‘Daz’ Howard-Jones and Lauren Francis now at the helm.
