The son of a government official, Patrick's Catholic faith meant little to him - until he was kidnapped by pirates at age 16 and enslaved in Ireland. It was there, in desperate need, that he turned to his Christian beliefs.
Through divine intervention, he eventually escape his captors, but, called by God, Patrick returned as a missionary to Ireland. There he converted thousands to Christianity.
