The Michael Law Award recognises an individual who has made a sustained and outstanding contribution to the community broadcasting sector.
Phillip Randall, CEO at Sydney’s Hope Media as well as a number of other stations, has been honoured by the CBAA (Community Broadcasting Association of Australia) with their most prestigious award. The Michael Law Award was presented to Phillip at the finale of the CBAA’s Gala Awards night on October 19.
The Michael Law Award recognises an individual who has made a sustained and outstanding contribution to the community broadcasting sector. Phillip receive the award for his many years of dedicated service to the community broadcasting sector.
He currently serves as CEO of Hope Media, in addition to overseeing the management and direction of Family Radio Ltd (96 Five in Brisbane), Sunshine Coast Christian Broadcasters Ltd, and Juice Media Ltd (Gold Coast) as part of Hope Media’s Co-Mission initiative.
He has previously been president of both the CBAA and CMAA (Christian Media & Arts Australia) and in earlier years was also a station manager at Sonshine in Perth (98five).
“Surprised and Delighted”
Upon receiving the award Phillip said, “I was surprised and delighted to be honoured in this way. I have thoroughly enjoyed the time I have spent in community broadcasting, during which I have met and worked alongside so many amazing people who are working to make a difference in their communities.”
“It was a privilege to serve on the CBAA Board and before that the Christian Media and Arts Australia Board. The community broadcasting sector is a vital and vibrant voice at a time of media concentration and the increasingly negative impact of social media on society.”
In a post on Facebook, the CBAA shared: “He [Phillip] has been described as warm, wise, knowledgeable, deeply engaged and more by those who have worked closest with him. We are grateful to him for his extensive contribution to the community broadcasting sector.”
Two Christian Stations Also Awarded
Two of CMAA’s member radio stations were also awarded by the CBAA on the night.
Melbourne’s Positive Media (89.9 TheLight) took out the Excellence in Fundraising & Sponsorship award, for the work of their donor engagement and business development teams.
And Brisbane’s 96five won two awards: the Outstanding Fundraising & Sponsorship Contribution award, for their Building Hope Appeal, and the Excellence in Production award for their ‘RADVent Calendar’ initiative.
