Being creative is a way of being kind to ourselves and creating connections with others, says painter Jessica LeClerc.
When artist Jessica LeClerc goes to her studio to paint, she brings an intention to create beauty and hope, not only for herself but for others.
She believes it is kindness that drives us to be creative; it is a way of loving ourselves and one another.
“It is an amazing kindness to myself, it relieves so much stress, it makes me wake up to what is inside of me,” she said.
“And I hope that this thing I'm doing for me becomes a kindness for you… it can create presence for you, it can create beauty for you… it reminds you that beauty exists and that other people are in this life journey with you.”
It’s a philosophy that is at work in not just her art-making, but her teaching, too, at her art school on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast.
Jessica LeClerc is one of the many artists and creators in the ‘MADE’ network: an initiative of CMAA bringing together creatives in the Christian community, to foster greater unity, excellence and innovation.
