CBF Welcomes New Committee Members to Help Shape the Future of Community Broadcasting

CBF welcomes four new Advisory Committee members, including the first Christian station representative on SIAC. Round 2 grant applications are now open.

The Community Broadcasting Foundation (CBF) has announced the appointment of four new members to its Advisory Committees. Jenny Anderson and Gerry ‘Gman’ Lyons will join the Sector Investment Advisory Committee (SIAC), while Wayne Bynder and Sahana Sehgal will join the Content Grants Advisory Committee from July 2025.

Jenny Anderson is Station Manager at 1WAY FM in Canberra. This marks the first time a representative from a Christian station has been appointed to the SIAC, a significant step in broader sector representation. Gerry ‘Gman’ Lyons is a familiar face to many CMAA members, having been involved with the CBF for years and attending multiple Connect Conferences.

The CBF plays a vital role in the Australian media landscape, with a purpose to fund a thriving, impactful and resilient future for community broadcasting. Its work supports hundreds of community media organisations and thousands of volunteers, helping to ensure community broadcasting remains locally relevant, community-led and sustainable.

The Advisory Committees play a key role in shaping CBF’s decision-making and ensuring the needs of the sector remain central to its work.

The CBF also farewelled outgoing members Maddy Macfarlane and Gerry Lyons (who will now serve in a different committee role), along with Vaughn Bennison and Gail Southwell. Their contributions and years of service have been instrumental in strengthening the sector and preparing it for the future.

As the community media sector continues to evolve, the work of the CBF and its Committees remains crucial in ensuring the sector remains a powerful and independent voice for communities across Australia.

In other CBF news, congratulations to the stations who have already received grant funding in Round 1 of 2025. While the full list of successful recipients is yet to be published, we are aware of at least six stations within our community that were successful. We look forward to sharing the complete list once available.

Applications for Round 2 of 2025 are now open and will close on 12 August. This is typically a smaller round of funding, but an important opportunity for stations to apply for support. More information on available grants can be found at cbf.org.au/grants/grants-available.
