A Letter from Penny, Chair of The Board

A Letter from Penny, Chair of The Board

Dear Christian media colleagues,

I’m writing to share some changes to the board leadership of CMAA.

I have had the privilege of serving on the CMAA Board since 2016, when I was elected as Deputy Chair. I became Chair in 2020, and it has been an absolute honour to lead this remarkable organisation over the past five years.

With my constitutional tenure concluding in mid-2026, the time has come for me to pass the baton. I’m delighted to share that the Board has appointed Susan Holt to step into the Chair role at CMAA, effective this month.

I will remain on the Board and continue serving as a director until the Annual General Meeting mid-year, at which time I will conclude my tenure.

I have loved my time on the Board, and also my involvement in the wider sector through community broadcasting round table meetings, CMAA annual conferences, and other Christian media events.

My journey in Christian media began many years ago with test broadcasts at Triple 7 in Melbourne—back before Positive Media was known by that name, and before it even held a community broadcasting licence. Since then, it has been a joy to watch Christian media grow and flourish across Australia and New Zealand, even in an ever-changing media environment.

One of the most encouraging changes I’ve witnessed has been the increasing involvement of women across the sector. At the first Christian Media conference I attended, I was one of only a handful—if not the only woman in the room. It has been truly wonderful to see that change over time.

It is easy to forget the hard work and dedication that so many people have contributed to bring Christian media to where it is today. My own engagement with media began in the commercial world. My first paid role as a radio journalist was at 2CA in Canberra, followed by EON FM in Melbourne, then 3AW, and later Channel Ten. Having a baby brought my professional radio career to an end, as Channel Ten would only have me return from maternity leave if I remained full-time. For the women reading this, I’m sure you’ll join me in celebrating that thankfully, times have changed!

I would like to sincerely thank CMAA CEO Nathan Brown, and the CMAA Board, for your commitment to Christian media. Nathan and the Board have been wonderful to work with, and it has been an incredible privilege to serve for the past ten years. I will miss it.

To all my Christian media colleagues, I wish you every success in the spaces in which you serve. Thank you for supporting CMAA—may that long continue.

May God bless you and keep you; may His light shine upon you and be gracious to you, in Jesus’ name.
