The makers of Unsung Hero have announced that their film is a Contender in the 2025 AACTA Awards, the Australian equivalent to the Oscars.

Joel and Luke Smallbone and their team made the announcement this week, calling on Aussies to help vote the film into the shortlist of Nominees. Voting is open to AACTA members at all levels, and anyone can join AACTA to support the industry.

The film’s promoters are urging people to vote for the film, its cast and crew in the following categories:

  • Best Film – Unsung Hero
  • Best Lead Actor in Film – Joel Smallbone
  • Best Lead Actress in Film – Daisy Betts
  • Best Supporting Actor in Film – JJ Pantano
  • Best Supporting Actress in Film – Kirrilee Berger
  • Best Direction in Film - Richard Ramsey & Joel Smallbone
  • Best Original Screenplay in Film – Richard Ramsey & Joel Smallbone
  • Best Cinematography in Film– Johnny Derango

Round 1 voting decides the Nominees for the Awards and will close on November 25. Round 2 voting, from December 7 to January 6, decides the winners.

The Australian Academy Cinema Television Arts awards are held every year, celebrating the best of Australian film and TV making. The 2024 awards were held on the Gold Coast and were hosted by Rebel Wilson.

Being an AACTA winner or even being voted into the AACTA Awards nominee list, is an incredible industry achievement that can open many doors for filmmakers and creatives, especially in Australia.

Unsung Hero, which was released in Australian and US cinemas in 2024, tells the true story of the Smallbones – the family behind two of the most successful acts in contemporary Christian music: five-time GRAMMY winning artists For King & Country, and Rebecca St. James.

To vote, AACTA members can head to the For Your Consideration tab on the main menu.
