Applications are now open for a new round of the CMTO's flagship course in marketing leadership.


If you work in Christian radio or TV and need to increase your knowledge in marketing, then the Community Media Training Organisation's course, ‘THINK BIG: Community Broadcasting Marketing Skill Set’, could be your perfect next step.

Designed to help grow in your leadership skills and boost your community engagement, the nationally recognised course is open to anyone in community media who is an active volunteer or staff member at a media outlet. A number of station managers from the Christian radio sector have benefited from previous rounds of the course.

The Community Broadcasting Marketing Skill Set course is the CMTO’s flagship course, combining sector experience and best practice case studies. It's fully subsidised, meaning there is no cost to you, and it provides the perfect opportunity to work with peers and mentors to grow as a leader.

Course Content

The ‘THINK BIG: Community Broadcasting Marketing Skill Set’ covers volunteer management, fundraising, sponsorship, and project management, with six nationally recognised units of competency:

  • Provide leadership across the organisation
  • Promote products and services
  • Undertake project work
  • Work effectively in the creative arts industry
  • Manage fundraising and sponsorship activities
  • Make presentations

These units, from the BSB Business Services and CUA Creative Arts and Culture Training Packages, meet the training requirements for community broadcasting station marketing managers and can contribute credit towards CUA51020 Diploma of Screen and Media.

Students will complete a series of 18 assessment tasks based on two major projects:

  • A sponsorship campaign building on your station’s core income
  • An enterprise development plan for a new income idea
