Global Bible Month: Uniting the World Around God’s Word

Every year, Global Bible Month invites believers everywhere to pause, reflect and celebrate the life-changing power of God’s Word. Across every nation, language and culture, it reminds us that the Bible remains as relevant and transformative today as ever. It continues to be a source of truth, hope and direction for all who open its pages.

A Global Moment of Unity and Faith

Global Bible Month is not only about reading the Bible. It is about recognising its central place in our lives and in our culture. It is an opportunity for churches, ministries and individuals to come together and reaffirm that the Word of God still speaks with clarity and power today.

As CMAA members, Christian broadcasters and communicators we have a unique opportunity to amplify this message, sharing stories of hope and encouraging communities to engage with Scripture afresh.

A Global Impact That Continues to Grow

The reach of the Bible across the world today is nothing short of extraordinary. The YouVersion Bible App alone is about to celebrate being downloaded on one billion devices globally, providing access to over 2,500 Bible versions in more than 1,800 languages. Every second, people around the world open the app to read, listen to or share Scripture.

Beyond digital engagement, Bible translation and distribution are also expanding rapidly. According to the United Bible Societies, more than 7.6 billion portions of Scripture were distributed in 2023, and full Bible translations are now available in over 700 languages, giving 95 percent of the global population access to at least part of God’s Word.

These numbers are not just statistics; they represent countless lives being touched, prayers being answered and hearts being changed as people encounter the truth of Scripture in their own language and context.

The Bible in Australia Today

Here in Australia, the story continues to unfold. Research from Bible Society Australia and McCrindle shows that while only 5 percent of Australians read the Bible daily, a growing number are turning to digital formats to engage with Scripture. Nearly half of all Bible readers (48%) now use a phone or tablet to read the Bible, and one in three Australians owns a printed copy.

Encouragingly, nearly one in four young adults (aged 18–24) say they are interested in learning more about the Bible, demonstrating a renewed openness among younger generations to explore faith and meaning. Christian media plays a key role in this space, helping to connect audiences with Scripture in ways that are accessible, creative and relevant to modern life.

This year, Global Bible Month carries special significance as CMAA joins with YouVersion Australia to encourage people across the country to engage with Scripture and rediscover the richness of God’s Word. It is an invitation to be part of a global moment of faith and renewal, united by a shared love for the Bible. Keep your eyes out for a reading plan to follow, in and with your communities.

This Global Bible Month, let us celebrate together.
