General Manager – Rhema 99.9

Location: Port Macquarie, NSW
Employment Type: 4-days per week
Status: Expression of Interest – appointment subject to successful CBF grant funding

The Opportunity

Rhema 99.9 is preparing for an important new chapter and is seeking expressions of interest from an experienced, values-driven leader for the proposed position of General Manager.

The position is subject to the successful outcome of a Community Broadcasting Foundation (CBF) grant application supporting Rhema’s Leadership Transition for Future Sustainability project.

For more than 27 years, Rhema 99.9 has served the Port Macquarie community through Christian radio, community connection and local engagement. The station is now entering a significant period of planned leadership renewal, with all three current paid staff, including the General Manager, expected to retire by early 2027. Several Board members are also transitioning.

This creates a unique opportunity for a new General Manager to help shape the next generation of Rhema’s leadership while preserving the knowledge, relationships, culture and community connections that have been built over many years.

About the Role

Working closely with the Board, staff and volunteers, the General Manager will provide strategic and operational leadership through this period of transition and into Rhema’s future.

Key areas of responsibility will include:

  • Leading the transition from the current leadership team and ensuring effective transfer of organisational knowledge, relationships and operational expertise.
  • Supporting the implementation of Roadmap 2033 and Rhema’s Strategic Plan.
  • Building strong relationships with churches, local businesses, community organisations, donors, supporters and other stakeholders.
  • Strengthening Rhema’s profile, community engagement and local partnerships across the Port Macquarie/Hastings region.
  • Developing sustainable approaches to fundraising, sponsorship and organisational support.
  • Supporting and developing staff and volunteers and encouraging the emergence of future leaders.
  • Working collaboratively with the Board to strengthen governance, organisational capability and strategic effectiveness.
  • Ensuring Rhema continues to deliver high-quality community broadcasting consistent with its Christian mission and values.

About You

We are seeking an experienced leader who can combine strategic thinking with practical, hands-on leadership.

You will ideally bring:

  • Proven leadership and organisational management experience.
  • Strong relationship-building and communication skills.
  • Experience working with volunteers, community organisations and diverse stakeholders.
  • An understanding of fundraising, sponsorship, business development, and community engagement.
  • The ability to work constructively with a Board and contribute to good governance.
  • A collaborative and people-focused leadership style.
  • The ability to lead thoughtfully through organisational change and transition.
  • A genuine commitment to Christian faith, values and mission.
  • An appreciation of the role community media can play in strengthening and connecting with churches and local communities.

Why Rhema?

This is more than an opportunity to manage an established radio station. It is an opportunity to help shape its future.

The successful applicant will join Rhema at a pivotal point in its history, working alongside the Board and outgoing leadership to ensure that decades of experience, relationships and community trust are carried forward while building the capability required for the next generation of local Christian media.

The role will have a particular focus on strengthening leadership, community engagement, governance, fundraising and strategic implementation, helping position Rhema 99.9 for sustainable service to the Port Macquarie/Hastings community well into the future.
