ARTIST PROFILE - Katie Dorizzi

For Katie Dorizzi, singing has been a companion that’s followed her life’s twists and turns – but it took on a whole new meaning when she first encountered Jesus.

A gospel singer from Perth, Katie is known for her heartfelt performances and passion for worship, and has honed her craft leading congregations in church.

Speaking about her journey as a vocalist, Katie said she first gained her passion for singing in school choir, but was “way too shy to be seen” - and was content to be a “shower singer”. But that all changed in her late 20’s, when she had an encounter with God.

“I was in a very bad place, in an unhealthy relationship, and was at breaking point,” Katie said. “I was walking the streets armed with a ton of prescription medication, looking for a quiet place to end the hurt, determined to end my life. As I was walking I heard music coming from a warehouse, so I stuck my head in, and and there were a group of musicians and singers playing away."

It was a church band rehearsal.

“I was touched and moved by what they were playing, had a personal encounter with God and gave my heart to Jesus right there," she said. "My life changed, and a fire and passion for singing and songwriting took over.”

A Heart for the Lost and Broken

Katie’s approach to her music is to write songs birthed from “the secret meeting place with God”, with a vision to reach the broken, lost and lonely, through events like open mic nights, prison outreach, and worship services.

“My goal is to create music that touches, empowers, and draws people into the presence of our loving God, to help them encounter the dearest friend they will ever know, Jesus,” she said.

“Even if one person is touched and changed through my music, then I have fulfilled the vision.”
