A Studio Chat with Ceramic Artist, Phi Morton
A lot of the work of ceramicist Phi Morton, is inspired by her natural surroundings. Many of her ceramic sculptures represent the clouds, trees and rock formations from where she lives in Maroubra.
She also creates pieces which reflect cultural moments, or philosophical ideas she has been thinking about.
In this studio chat, Phi talks about one of her favourite works, which she has titled, ‘Basic Man’.
“I built [Basic Man] because it reminds me that as a regular human, we can choose what we put in our head and in our heart,” she says. “And the common thing, even though we all choose something different to put in our head or our heart, we can just still enjoy each other's company, and just sit, and hold one another.”
Phi Morton is one of the many artists and creators in the ‘MADE’ network: an initiative of CMAA bringing together creatives in the Christian community, to foster greater unity, excellence and innovation. She also holds pottery and art workshops for children in local schools.
